Ali Winters is not having a good day. Her boyfriend left her, everyone in town thinks she's a thief, and now she's about to be kicked out of her home. Her only shot at keeping a roof over her head and clearing her name is to beg for help from a police detective who's as sexy as he is stern....

After a high-profile case goes wrong, Luke Hanover returns to his hometown for some peace and quiet. Instead he finds a bombshell brunette in a heap of trouble. As he helps Ali put her world back together, the pieces of Luke's own life finally seem to fall into place. Is this the start of a sizzling fling? Or are Luke and Ali on the brink of something big in a little town called Lucky Harbor?

(originally posted on my GR account)

I love going back to Lucky Harbor. And I loved reading the first book (in the series of three but really the seventh book in the whole series) about Ali and Luke's road to falling in love.

Jill's Lucky Harbor books are the one I expect the most and I'm so happy to say the newest addition to her amazing series didn't disappoint.

Both Luke and Ali had issues and problems to overcome but I admired how neither of them (especially Ali) gave up. I absolutely enjoyed their relationship from the first to last page and those two are definitely in my list of favorite hero, heroine and couple. Their talks, their arguments, their funny and sexy times... everything between them was an exquisite journey. I loved their love.

It was actually the amount of time spent with those two that distinguishes 'It had to be you' from the other books in the series. Because even though there are some friends and family times--Luke and his friendship with Jack, Ali and Leah's, Luke and his sister, Luke and his grandpa, Ali and her mom and sister-- (which I LOVED LOVED LOVED), the main focus is really on Ali and Luke.

But I won't say more because this book and the entire Lucky Harbor series speak for themselves. Just go buy and read it. And if you haven't even started the series, yet; and you're a contemporary romance fan, do it now. Any of the books can stand alone so you can pick them whenever you want (with the sisters, the chocoholics or the newest one), but it's a more enjoyable experience when you start your Lucky Harbor visit from book 1.

P.S. For all of those who have followed the books from Simply Irresistible to Forever and a Day, there are some tiny updates on some of our favorite characters.

It Had to Be You (Audible Audio Edition) Jill Shalvis Annie Greene Hachette Audio Books Reviews

Jill Shalvis's Lucky Harbor series is a consistently good bet for light, fun, contemporary romance. That very consistency, though, is what left me feeling a little let down by this book. All the the Lucky Harbor characters are cut from the same cloth the women are sweet, funny, loyal, and stronger-than-they-knew even when down on their luck (and they are always down on their luck). The men are always the strong, silent type, pathologically commitment-phobic but unable to resist love when it comes calling.

Ali is having a rough week. She learns her boyfriend is cheating on her, and the he dumps her (via text) before she has a chance to dump him. In that same text, he tells her the lease has expired on their apartment, so she's homeless, too. Plus she's about to lose her job. And then, as if all that were not enough, she's suddenly the prime suspect in a major theft.

Luke is a detective from San Francisco who has returned to his childhood home to decompress after a very high profile murder case goes very wrong. He carries a lot of guilt guilt for the botched case, guilt for not being there when his grandmother died, guilt over a life altering mistake he and his sister (mostly the sister) made as teenagers.

Together, Ali and Luke make each other happy. That's one thing Shalvis does well her couples take care of each other in equal partnerships. Even where the damsel in distress is rescued by the knight in shining armor, she patches the chinks, polishes the armor, and rolls up her sleeves and stitches up the war wounds, so the relationship is not so one sided.
Here's the thing-If I could live inside pretty much any series..and I read A LOT of books..it would be Jill Shalvis's Lucky Harbor series.
This is only the latest installment in what has turned out to be one of the most fun places to visit. I wait for each new book to come out and then start reading and don't stop until I've finished. Each book in the series is stand alone, so you don't have to start at the beginning but once you read one you'll want to. The recurring cast of characters is so much fun and will have you laughing out loud and at times shedding a couple tears too.

This is the story of Ali and Luke. They are so far probably my favorite Lucky Harbor couple with the exception of Chloe and Sawyer circa Head over Heels.

Ali's having a bad day, maybe more like a bad month. After being dumped by her boyfriend, and finding she suddenly has no where to live, she's also being accused of being a thief. Luke has come to Lucky Harbor to find some peace and a much needed vacation. What he finds instead is Ali, in her underwear. Charmed by her, and suckered in by her predicament he decides to help her get back on her feet and help find out who's really responsible for the crime she's being accused of.

The chemistry between these two is so steamy, and adorable. Which is a feat in and of itself. The antics of the background cast of characters will make you laugh out loud. Lucille is my favorite!!

Where ever you start in the Lucky Harbor series you won't be disappointed, but you will be busy for a while because once you read one you won't be able to stop! If you are a fan of Contemporary Romance look no further than Jill Shalvis!
